We’ll play with modifying basic ground skills as a way of moving with, and mounting the apparatus; spins and starts; and open fabric opportunities.

There will be time set aside for free exploration, and the workshop will finish with students creating their own, unique floorial sequence, if they so choose.

Students may explore certain elements on sling and rope if they wish.

Prerequisites: Fabric experience is not required, however students must have prior aerial experience and should be able to invert easily on any apparatus from the ground, and execute a forward roll/somersault. Ability to execute a backwards roll of any type will be extremely helpful but not required.

There will be optional opportunities to explore mixing basic tumbling with the apparatus and for students interested in those skills they *must* be able to execute a solid cartwheel on the ground and be comfortable kicking up to a handstand in free space (no hold required) without a spot.

Mini Sessions

Performance Lab $80 Purchase required to enroll

A workshop style class that meets once a month for anyone interested in creating and performing their own acts. Performance lab will be geared towards newer performers, but all skill levels and performance experiences are welcome, from students looking to do their first open stage to accomplished artists looking to improve their stage shows. Performance and act creation are skills like any other, so if we want to get better we need to practice. Keeping that in mind, attendees will perform an act at every class, followed by a critique. We’ll also be talking about different aspects of performing, discussing act creation, and playing theater games.

Attendees will need to have a new act ready to perform each class 3-5 minutes. Acts do not need to be polished! Any “type” of act is fine, non-circus acts included. Acts should be entirely new, created specifically for this class.

Please have an act ready for the first class. The theme is completely open, but the following classes will have more guidance.

Items to bring:

Must have some way to take notes (notebook, laptop, whatever)
